Terrain tracking in max?

#1

Hey everyone,

I’m looking at the Vue7.5 PLE and in particular trying it in max. It looks fantastic and renders ridiculously fast under mental ray, but I want to do a chase sequence through a forest, and it looks like there’s no way to place the characters acurately on the terrain proxy in max as it’s just a low poly mesh that doesn’t line up with the surface of the terrain when it’s rendered :frowning:

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Also, what the duck is up with Eon forums? Their official ones are just not available, and I can’t figure out where the search link on cornucopia3Ds forums is.

If you open the scene in standalone vue, o use the terrain editor directly in max, you can export the terrain and import it into max.
You will need to hit the x2 button to increase the res of the terrain.
If you are using a procedural terrain, make a copy of the terrain first, then increase the res, and change the terrain to a standard terrain. You can then export the converted terrain.

You may want to setup a small export test scene first, to see if the scene scales match. I don’t use max, but this works in cinema and lw, and normally the scales are off.
