OK, this is either an oversight on my part or a feature request.
Is there anthing similar to MAYA’s “Template” function in MODO, if not is this something we could add? Just a feature I found very helpful in MAYA.

i’m guessing that what u mean by template is a mesh displayed that you’re not able to select/edit? a reference kinda?
you can copy an object into a background layer, that is to say copy the ojbect u want as a template/reference into a layer, this layer can be displayed in, lack of term here but foreground or background mode. Anything in background mode shows up as a black wireframe and cannot be selected/edited etc etc.
Or if the object in the current layer is the one you wish to “template” then just make that a background layer and create a new layer in foreground mode to work in.
