Technique Question

#1

Greetings everybody

Im currently in the process of modeling some space ships for a trailer project i posted about in the WIP section, i came across two images on a forum regarding work that german studio ‘ground-studios’ had done for a game of sorts

this was one of the images they had put up

the second one was this

now i fully understand the first one was a basic low poly model with some AO and GI on it but what i would like some insight on as to how all that radom geometry is created on the final object. Does an artist go in an model EACH detail on the object or is it painted on using some technique. In short id like to know how all the geometry is created when i can see it was not modelled on the original object.

Regards

You could model them by hand. with Zbrush’s subtool it wouldn’t be so bad. Or you could render the thing with displacement maps.

ah fair enough im looking into displacement mapping before i go in an actually model each of the elements im looking into. a friend did recommend going in and doing it my self as evetually i have to light it all up my self so might as well go in an model each thing as well maybe with a c4d symmetry turned on to make things less tedious

Displacement maps is the popular method and should give you all the detail on that model.
