Tank Treads

I want to animate my treads. Im using maya does anyone know any resources I can learn from to figure out how to do this?

quick update I was pointed to using CV curves to animate it I have my track laid out is there a way I can have the CV curve form to the layout of the laid out track as opposed to each tread piece being relaid to the CV curve layout.
