Syntheyes tutorial

#1

I know I have already posted this in the news section (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=59&t=910484),
but I want to take the chance and announce the Syntheyes Complete Training on cmiVFX here as well.

Here’s the video announcement:
http://www.vimeo.com/14135275

I’m posting here in the Blender forum as well because cmiVFX has agreed to give Blender-users 30% off if you purchase before september 1st. Just use this coupon code at the store:
“Blender3D30”

Reason for that is that there will be a second tutorial coming out in september that will make use of the tracking-data and footage from this tutorial, and that second tutorial will be all about Compositing with Blender. It will cover renderlayers, multipass-rendering and node-compositing and teach you how to composite CGI into camera-footage.
So if you’re interested in matchmoving and compositing, then these 2 tutorials will give you a solid foundation for your VFX and CGI work.

Wow inspirational stuff for sure, looks really cool.
Is camera tracking not possible in blender? (pardon the newbie question, I am not that much into animation as of this moment)

Thanks!
No, there is currently no tracking feature in Blender whatsoever. But with the next open movie that is going to change probably. At least that’s what I heard. Project Mango, as it is referred to, will focus on filmmaking, VFX, tracking etc. So with a bit of luck there will be tracking and rotoscoping in Blender in 1-2 years. But don’t take my word for it!! Only time will tell. That being said, i believe there is one guy working on a camera-tracker for Blender since quite a while, but I don’t know about the status of that project. I don’t think it’s usable yet.
