Syndicate SSS, anyone tried it?

#1

I see that Syndicate in Sweden has a very interesting SSS plugin for download on their site:
http://www.syndicate.se/Default.aspx?Id=296

I am installing 2010 now to test it out (shame they don’t have it for 2008 or 2009). Has anybody here looked at it? I’ve been looking for a render-idependent SSS-plugin for some time now, so I’m really curious to test this one out!

Seems interesting…but 179 quid to revert back to scanline when MR is built into Max.

Yeah, the price is very steep. I guess it’s because they are Scandinavian (we have a reputation for being expensive up here). Let’s hope its worth it.

Also, they have a feature-limited free version.

Well that’s the price you Nordic lads pay for living in the most efficiently run societies in the world.

looks good from what i’ve seen so far. I use scanline for its amazing speed.not using ray tracing obviously.i wished there was more info and sample animations on the web site. i think its great people are still developing for scanline renderer…

#6

I’ve installed the lite version. (max2010 x64)

but I cannot find the Syndicate SSS category in the Helpers create panels dropdown.

Am I missing something?

#7

i havent used it as i dont max 2010. but my guess is it’s a material not a helper.

I did some test renderings this morning, and you can do some beautiful scattering with this plugin!

It’s a combination of a helper object and a material type, which makes it a bit cumbersome to use. Have you checked if the material is there as well? It’s a shader type that you find in the rollout inside Shader Basic Parameters inside the Standard Material. If the shader type is missing as well, there might be something wrong with the installation. If only the helper is missing, I suggest you contact Syndicate!

The demo looks interesting, anyone having the full version? Would be nice if
it’s stable in animation with reasonable sampling…

#10

I purchased the full version, and the scattering is indeed lovely. Still haven’t done any animation in it though.
