switching materials between objects?

#1

So how is this accomplished in blender.
I JUST started with blender, and have experience with max and maya.

it doesn’t seem like blender has anywhere that houses your collection of materials.
it just seems to update the properties window based on whichever object you have selected.

There must be something better,
reason is, I ran through most of this tutorial on modeling/rendering some balloons.
Nice tutorial… however… I went back in and monkeyed with the nodes a little bit and for some reason
it killed some of my material nodes.

So basically I just wanted to take one of my remaining materials, duplicated it, change only the color, and apply it to other balloons.

Hi,
In short, select the object, then in the materials pane, select the material you wish to duplicate then click the ‘Make single user’ button. This will create a copy of the material and apply it to the selected object.

I’ve attached a screenshot with the buttons you’ll need to hit and a before/after.

Is this the sort of thing you had in mind?
