Surf-O-Matic: a free tool for animators

#1

Hi all,

My name is Gianpaolo Fragale and I’m a passionate character animator.

I don’t know if this is the right place to post this but I just finished my Surf-O-Matic project, a free tool for animators, and I’d like to share it to know your opinions.
I hope it can be a funny way to play with animation principle, to practice with your balance skill and, overall, to improve weight shift in animation.

So, please feel free to download Surf-O-Matic and send your comments and suggestions also in the Surf-O-Matic Wall page.THANKS.
If you enjoy with this tool, I’d like to create an animation contest using Surf-O-Matic, more features and overall more versions (actually, Surf-Omatic it’s only available for 3dsmax) and why not? a Surf-O-Matic school :))

If you want to support the project please make it know to others animators.
Thanks for reading!

Cheers,
Gianpaolo.

Greetings fellow character animator! :buttrock:

This thing looks really awesome! Definitely the kind of thing to use to get some serious weight and balance practice in.

Seem to be having a bit of trouble downloading it though. Tried to download the demonstration video and it took much longer than it was supposed to for something of that size and then when it was done it didn’t work. Then the actual scene file pretty much stopped in the middle of the download.

One thing I was also wondering about : is there any possibility that we can see this bad boy in Maya? Or what would the deal be for getting it from 3DSMax to Maya?

Can’t wait to check it out! (Whenever I’m able actually download it lol)

Thank you guys for your comments!

@BallisticPeanut: please tell me if you have solved your download trouble, if not please email me and I’ll send you the file. At the moment I’m working on a maya version of Surf-O-Matic…

Cheers,
Gianpaolo

Still not having any luck with the download. Tried it in a few different browsers and they all reacted the same way, they simply stop in the middle of the download.

That sure would be awesome of you if you could send it to me : ballistic_peanut@yahoo.com

Thanks a lot!

Really cool idea, guys. I might have to mess around with this a bit. My first professional game project was a surfing game so this brings back memories

Wow, this seems great! I’ll give it a try.

Seems like an awfully fun idea! I downloaded the Maya version, worked perfectly so far, now to animate something…
