Hi,
Please see images. I have create two cylinders (one has been tapered). I have created the boolean but getting a ridge as highlighted in picture. How do I remove the ridge? Or is it a case of the workflow I have used? Please advise.

Thats pretty normal to be honest. That kinda thing happens with subdiv smoothing, tiny bumping or pinching in areas.
Mess around with verts and edges to try and ease that ‘ridge’, or go higher polycount.
I never really worry too much about this type of thing, not unless its going to be rendered that close, if so then I go with a slightly denser mesh and try and smooth out any annoying areas.
Thanks for the reply NightOwl. Advice is great, but how would I fix this issue if a close-up is needed. I always seem to struggle when applying bevel that I want to keep ‘squared off’ within a sphere or cylinder.
I have attached another problem, but the same… if that makes sense:
When I bevel edges in this sphere, I get a defect line as highlight when smoothed… what is it Im doing wrong? Any advice?
Many thanks
more polygons. start with a dense sphere and cut your shape into it. it’s a pain in the ass but it’s what needs to be done.
as for why you’re seeing that pinching in these new images, look at the size of your polygons that surround the cutout. they then taper to quite small AT the cutout. that causes pinching. always strive for nice, uniform squares. if you’ve got wonky looking polygons you’ll have a wonky surface.
