Stuck on muscles for the radius and ulna

#1

Hi all

I’m currently struggling a bit with drawing the muscles onto the radius and ulna. I mostly get what muscles exist in that area, but I can never seem to get the curves right and the arm always ends up looking a tad odd. So far I’m just looking at the muscles from a front on perspective with the palm facing outwards so I haven’t even begun to think about twisting the wrist and figuring out how the muscles move yet :argh:

So does anyone know of any good anatomy photos or tutorial/guides/threads that might help me understand how the muscles in this area fit on and work? I have not had much luck finding anything on this.

Sometimes I wish I just had removable muscles so I could see in 3D how all this stuff fits on

Thanks guys.

Hey i’m having the same problem as you have a look on getbodysmart.com it has a muscle system secition for most of the body, where you can see the muscles part by part. it give you a description of how most of the muscles move. Hope this helps you!

My input is that studying anatomy is great, but the common misconception is that it is going to teach you to draw an arm. That is not true, it will help you better understand the mechanics of the arm and in turn improve your drawing. But if you feel you understand the muscles and are having trouble getting the form right, get into life drawing classes and study the real world morphology of the anatomy. Keep up the good studies, but remember no amount of book knowledge can replace life observation.
