Stripey mental ray shading

#1

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with rendering my scene in Maya.
Here’s the set up of lights:

And here’s the result:

As you can see, there’s some weird stripeyness going on.

The shader on the character is “misss_fast_skin_maya” and the renderer is the default values for Mental Ray on “Production” quality.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

It looks like something to do with the smoothing group. You can do a test by apply a Smooth to it and render. If that solve the problem, make sure the polygons are using the same smoothing group when you render with lowres mesh.

Hi Inazuma,
My guess is there could be an issue with your lightmap setting.Check for the following
Texture type----------Color
Writable--------------ticked
File size Width--------ideally it is through an expression but manually you can set it to be double of your render image width.
File size Height--------ideally it is through an expression but manually you can set it to be your render image height.
File Size Depth--------32 bits

Let me know if it helps.
Regards.
Rahul.

Update
add the following expression as referred above in case it is missing/broken in the lightmap
mentalrayTexture1.miWidth=defaultResolution.width*2
mentalrayTexture1.miHeight=defaultResolution.height
