Strange issues...

#1

I’d appreciate any help on this greatly as I’ve never come across this problem before and my workflow is exactly the same…

Problem 1: Mudbox skipping UV regions for some reason - despite that my UV map is in 0-1?
Problem 2: Why is Mudbox generating 2 displacement maps!?
Problem 3: Mudbox generating completely empty or entirely black displacement.

My settings and UV Layout:

Why have you checked ‘process multiple uv tiles’ if your map is all in the regular 0-1 space?

Hey PaulAdams,

Yeah if you look at the Multiple Map support section you will see you have URange set to 6, (mudbox sometimes does this automatically) - set it to 1. If you had spread your uv’s over 6 tiles (boxes) in the u direction then 6 would be correct.

I’d love to know how you get on with producing the disp map - personally I have found it a nightmare! The fact you have holes around ur eyelids might be the first place the disp messes up… keep us posted

Mudbox does this by default because the map isn’t, even though it appears, in 0-1 space. Which was my problem documented in the first post.

Anyway, this was resolved - using an older version of UVLayout, it had some problems going straight into Mudbox. It was in 0-1 but Mudbox thought it wasn’t, updating UVLayout fixed it.

vfx, Mudbox sucks a bit at displacement generation IMO. The fact that you can’t really have holes in your mesh is annoying. I tend to open the maps in Photoshop and paint out the white areas around eyes, noses, etc. Hope this is improved in Mudbox 2.
