And here is the first previz…
i wanted to do a couple of different ideas before this stage, but somehow i really liked the initial idea and setting so i stuck to it. That must count for something. Here is the first 3D previz, done in Maya. the character blocks are yet to follow.
so, the characters and the enviro is in place. i guess its time to take this baby to charackter concept and lineart phase.
any comments on anything, (specially composition) would be appreciated.
cheers s
Since I didn’t state it anywhere and the previz sketch was to poor, I may need to clarify what my artwork is all about.
A farmers donkey is taking the day off and the farmer gets to pull the wagon.
Initially I had the horses and donkeys of Egypt in mind. These poor creatures often lead a very cruel life. the picture would have an Egyptian desert-like backdrop and would be much more realistic and brutal. In the end I opted for a more dreamy shrek meets asterix kind of style. Since I’m generally lousy with animals I’ll have to do a lot of research on donkeys, that’ll be fun:)
stay tuned

some sketches of the donkey.
I really had a hard time finding good donkey pictures.
So it was really a lucky break that i ended up with a design i liked on my second try:)
thx gord!
i looked up your anatomy thread.
some lovely work in there especially the sportive motivs of #66.
cheers
Cool concept
The first thing I would do would be to fix the tangent on the right tree, easier to get it out of the way now.
Secondly I think if there are no other figures in your piece, maybe it should be more of a closeup, or with the characters closer in this layout.
Either way I’ll be checking back, good luck ![]()
Thx, its been bugging me too that the tree completes the arc of the ruin.
Since my native tongue isnt English, by tangent you did mean the thing about the tree and the arc. or have I missed another aspect altogether?
I considered the characters to be bigger too, place the focus on them, but i wanted the farmer to seem helpless and alone in that big environment. I think that the coloring will accentuate that. if it doesnt, I can still make them bigger or crop.
thank you again for the feedback!
I did some correctionst to the composition added added some first colors.
What do you think of my viva pinata grass?
