Latest Update: Concept Sketch or 3D pre-visualization: the dentist

#2

Hi everyone, nice to see you already started without letting me know!
Here’s my first sketch. So the story goes like this:
A little girl and her first visit to the dentist doesn’t turn out what she’d expected at all! The dentist, specialized in treating kids tried everything. A funny hat, funny shoes everything to make her feel at ease. She however, doesn’t trust him at all and wants to be in mummy’s safe arms. For him it’s become a matter of life and death, because he must and will not rest before he can get her into the chair again. After trying every little trick in the book, he’s sweating, his head is turning red and finally becomes so desperate and that he’s pulling out his own teeth just to show her that it doesn’t hurt a bit! At this point (jesus, i should write a book about this!) the mum is starting to get scared, but the kid begins to think he’s a funny man…
BTW this is based on a true story…

Thank you, pixeltuner!

I’ll take that as a compliment

Hi Gordy,

Thank you for your support! Good luck to you to!

Hey Michel, very cool idea, a totally different approach !! really nice  ( and if is based in a "true story " what a crazy dentist hahahaha  ) Best of luck with your entry!! and looking forward for updates!!

Hi Ferx!

Saw your ‘surfer ant’ sketches are going to be awesome! Keep up the good work!

#9

Just a quick style/character study for the dentist. Thought it would be nice to try something different than I was planning…
Hope you like!

Wow I really like the style of this one! I think this is going to turn out nicely. But, what do you mean, “based on a true story”? Thats the most disturbing thing I have ever heard! :scream: Yipes! I dont think I would ever go back. Anyway, like I said, I cant wait to see how this one turns out! Goodluck!

I like your smooth and clean style! so thumbs up for that.
But oh my, based on a true story? lock him up!

Keep it up

Still trying to figure out what the scene is going to look like. This is the first setup. Had to add an assistant to explain the situation a bit more…I’m definitely adding more kids-stuff to emphasize the kids-dentist.
any thoughts?

#13

That sure is one dedicated guy :scream: !

This will be a very funny scene to watch  !

But I’m not entirely sure about the assistant… It’s quite possible she enjoys the antics of her employer, although it might be a good idea to test whether a more embarrassed attitude wouldn’t actually work better here? In that case she would need a different pose, of course, like standing up and slightly looking away from the madness  .

Anyway I respect your vision and I’m sure it’ll turn out great  !

Hey there, that idea and the graphic is really funny. He’s in complete agony just to sell the idea that the experience is totally opposite of the immense pain he’s in. :scream:

The fact that you said it’s based on a true story certainly does not preclude it from being an over the top and strange behavior.
Nice comp. I’ll be watching this thread.
All the best!

I find the assistant a little distracting. I am wondering if she should take more of a ‘backseat’ role. I wonder if she should perhaps be taking a more sympathetic role towards her boss (but then agin maybe he is a nasty boss!). just my two cents.

Hi mama-chisel

Sorry for intruding again  but I just had another thought: you could extend the canvas to the right and show an open door, through which we can see a couple more people. It could be a colleague coming to visit, with his own assistant. He could have an expression like “Oh dear, he’s at it again…”, while his assistant would already know him too and could barely restrain herself from bursting into laughter. These characters would be standing in the doorway, thus very much in the background, but they would add more different reactions to the dentist’s behaviour. That would give you: his own assistant feeling embarrassed, the child being entertained, the mother feeling worried, the colleague feeling annoyed, and that one’s assistant feeling amused.

The reason I would change his own assistant’s reaction to one of being embarrassed, is that she feels partly responsible for the strange proceedings. But you can keep your concept in the form of the second assistant who would take more of a backseat, as Gord-MacDonald already suggested.

Just an idea  ! Looking forward to the next update  .

Oh NO! Not GfxDjin again;)

Hi GfxDjin! Just kdding…
I think that sounds like a very good idea! I’m going to take that one in consideration. Nice to know that you’re helping me out with this one.

It’s a nice challenge to tell a chronological story in one illustration. I would like the viewer to know that the kid was already in the chair, so you’ll understand why he’s frustrated like $%@& and he’s still not convincing her that it doesn’t hurt!

But than again maybe it’s not important at all and is it just fun and strange enough to see him go mental
Thanks again!

First stage in line model. I decided to change the dentist’s position and change the scenery a bit. I didn’t feel too happy with the last composition where he was in the chair.

I’m gonna add some nice equipment he made himself. Some mixtures of candymachines and dental stuff. I’m gonna look forward adding these in the final line Art…!

heheh it´s a funny idea. I like your style. Good luck to you!
