Hi, this is my first post here. Did a simple image some time ago, tried to make it as realistic as possible.

As you have already stated it is a simple image but I think it carries the realism very well. I think that with a photo realistic image the most important aspects are texturing, lighting and DOF. The metal is very realistic and has a good environment applied to it to bring out the metalic qualities, the scene is also well lit with nice subtle shadowing about the objects.
