I am setting up render layers for composite, and I need to set the ground not to self-occlude. I know I have to make an attribute named miLabel, but I need to know step by step which values to set where. Anyone wants to help??
Step by step Ambient Occlusion help

Bad etiquette sir
Wow, I am sorry that I do not follow the etiquette, I guess I was not aware of this, I am quite new to this forum. I haven´t gotten any answers to my post, so I just assumed that this was not of interest. But I got into the shape node of the object that I did not want to self occlude. Then in the attribute editor, enter the attribute tab, click add attributes. Call the attribute miLabel, set the min value to 0 and the max value to 1. Now this attribute shows at the end of where you´ve got your x y z attributes etc. THEN, make sure that the id nonself area in the mib occlusion shader is set to 1 aswell, and this should make your object not self occlude.
Happy to share, even happier to get responses;-)
This is in maya 2011. I set up the ambient occlusion by assigning a surface shader to an object. then connect a mib ambient occlusion shader from the mental ray shaders to this surface shader.
Thanks for the share, I was being slightly tongue in cheek with my post but tone is hard to detect.
I just think it’s a good idea if you manage to answer a question yourself to share with others what your solution was. Otherwise it comes across as being a bit selfish. (I’ve been guilty myself in the past)
Anyway good to see your solution and sharing.
p.s. sorry about the gender confusion
That is ok, I´ll of course take my time to share from now on, I completely see the point since this is a forum that should be based on this idea:-) I am a newbie, and I guess sometimes I´m a bit self concious aswell, and think that there is really nothing that I can help people in this forum with, most people here do awesome stuff:-))
