Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Teodorescu Calin
[left]Hi everyone,
I will post my wips, as soon as I get my computer back from the service… just bear with me. Thanks.

Hi everyone, since I don’t have a working platform right now, I decided not to waste time, and instead inform myself on a few myths and finally choose one I’m going to stick with.
So far, I was aiming for ‘mother nature’ concept…also known as Gaia in greek mythology. After reading about it for a while, I did somehow come upon Tartarus, which is described as something that resides even lower than Hades, the god of the underworld. Tartarus is both a deity and a place or space… out of which even existence itself sprouted.
I’ll stick to the evil side
Since Tartarus owns a dual interpretation, I picture the whole concept as a giant underground cave, enlightend by steaming lava, flowing through the steampunkish veins of a symbiosis style charakter, that just lays there, in his whole massiveness.
Since there is a quite important connection between Hell (Tartarus in this case being both the scene, and a semi-passive character) and Hades, I was thinking of portraying him levitating right next to Cerberus, the three-headed guarddog of the Underworld.
Ofcourse, Cerberus, is in my case a steampowered, giant anthromorphic metal figure, and Hades is flying on a darker cloud right above, holding the controls, which are connected to Cerberus through a magnitude of pipes, and metal hinges.
What is important to mention is the fact that Tartarus has his eyes closed but his face poses a hard frown… as if he was having a bad dream, or as if his sleep was disturbed by the infernal noise of Hades’ metalic, steampowered playdoll.
If you think I’m nuts, or totally off, please just say so, so I won’t go on the wrong road…
Thank you.
Hi there…
Another few ideas popped into my mind while doing my pen&paper sketches… I think I will be doing a really wideangle picture, since standard dimensions don’t offer a realistic perception over the massiveness of the underground realm and of tartarus…
Are there any limits to size and ratio or is the 4:3 just for the videos? I was thinking the size of 3 A4 pages landscape, side by side… please tell me if you think it’s wrong.
Ah yeah… a styx of steaming hot pipes, hundreds of them, some punctured, some totally solid… running through the whole scene, to breathe some more deepness to the whole perspective…
bad idea? And since it’s Greek-myth hell, and I already have Hades, Tartarus and the river Styx… why not a mechanical CHARON ?
still awaiting some sort of feedback… any.
This is what I thought might be a nice ‘‘opening’’ to cerberus… from here, I’m off to creating his mechanical body…
Hope it’ll come out as I pictured it in my mind…
C&C is welcome.
I’ve had a few tries with the lighting and shading of the composition… I’m not really pleased but hopefully the guys at HP will be so kind as to ship me my laptop back anytime next…week maybe, so I can actually start using something else besides this mouse…
oh yeah…and just to have an idea of hades… I sketched him…pretty bad, I know, but I will get to that later.
