Latest Update: Final Image: Brisingammen

Yesterday, I finally had a chance to start working on this cool competition.

Myth: Freya and the Brisingammen
One day the nordic god of love, Freya, saw the most beautiful neckless ever created. She was captivated by its magic and wanted it with all her heart.

But the dwarfs that had forged it wouldn´t sell it to her, so in in order to obtain it, she was obliged to spend a night with each of them in turn.

From then on no man could resist her when she wore the neckless, called Brisingammen.

In my setting, Freya is visiting the dwarfs in their underground steampunk blacksmith, and it is the moment where she gets hypnotized by its power.

Well, good look to you all. Can´t wait to see all the cool stuff you are making.

First Freja design and composition. From my initial thumbnail sketch, freja has a huge importance in the scene. So I wanted to go straight to there to see how it worked out.

Pencil sketch

Also I wanted to have a small idea of the dwarfs, so tried to draw one of them. This one is forging one part of the neckless. I quite like them to be bald, think it could work pretty well with the light in the scene.

#5

I wanted to get closer to the composition, so used my pencil drawings, and painted on top in photoshop. I made a slight 2 point perspective, I don´t want this to turn up too flat.

#6

First colorstudy of the scene around freya. Don´t know yet what way to go.

#7

I worked more on the composition as well as the values. Think the composition is almost there, better get started on some painting soon

really nice paintings and start. Is your piece going to be painted, 3d or a mix? good luck

Hi Rasmus,

Very good sketch.
But i like more the first position, where the girl is in the right place of the image.
Good luck and keep it up.

First colour sketching. Still a lot to figure out. Need some contrast to the red or I think it will get to monochrome.

#12

More colouring

#13

I have used quite some time on freya and the dwarf…especially on the relationship between them, as it is important for the composition

#14

As Freyja is my other alias I really love to see the final image of yours
Already love the colors and her face. Keep it coming!

#15

wow, this is really strong! Keep rocking, looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Hey Rasmus,
Thanks for the comments, i will make some adjustments, i’ll try moving it back, and creating some forground and see if that works,

I love your concept, amazing character designs, was just reading the story, this ones new to me, but i will keep an eye on your progression, so the neckless is what the dwarfs creating which will be steampunked based, as well the tools the dwarfs are using, do let me know if I have it right, but I have to say you have one heck of composition, also love colors the perfect mood, cheers!

Way to go, my friend!
I just have a small suggestion; since Freya is a godess (and pretty cold one too), I think that it would be nice if you could emphasize the difference between her and the dwarves. Try adding some subtle icy-blue glow or corona around her persona (especially the eyes).
After all, she is a Norse godess and as such she MUST be different than metal-crafting people like dwarves, yes?
Otherwise, she is just a pretty girl shopping for jewellery…

good composition

Still painting…
I think it is beginning to come together, but gotta make the focal point better, where her hand is. It is too stiff and boring, so gotta work it up.

Midhat: Thanks for your comment. I think you are right, that I should make the difference between them bigger, and make it read as she is a goddess.

Rupy: Thanks. Yes, the neckless is created by the dwarfs, and I thought that they should live in a steampunk based environment. Good to see your progression in your work.
