I decided to do the battle of Baduhenna, written by Tacticus.
This is an obscure local tale.
The battle unfolded in the area i grew up in wich is Northern Holland around the year 28ad.
Baduhenna is a Frisian goddess who helped stop the evil empire of Rome enslaving their women en children.
900 romans where slaughterd and crucified the remaining 400 soldiers deserted to a nearby villa, where the fear of betrayal made them paranoid and kill eachother.
The name Baduhenna means something like ‘battle goddess’.

This is my initial character sketch for Baduhenna.
she dwells in the holy forest of Baduhenna accompanied by odins ravens.

The detail in the modeling is great…maybe soften your textures a little, at the moment they look a little hash to me?

I like the concept - and thanks for introducing me to a new story!

There are a couple of really nice touches in your drawing that haven’t come across in the model - only subtle things, but they might add another level of sophistication:

>The steam pipes are angled slightly apart, like the drones on bagpipes
>The right arm (the clockwork one) has a nice elegant curve to it - it’s not dead straight mechanics
>The right shoulder straps (the pierced ones) are smaller, and more sculpted. There are only three of them, as well.

I suppose I’m really saying that your original sketch, though very rough, had an elegance about it that hasn’t made it to your 3D model. If you could capture it, it would really improve the piece.

I know it’s a WIP, but it’s a good call by balfs21 on the texturing - it looks a bit like leather at the moment.

Good luck

AJ

Thanks for the comments guys, I agree its to linear.
Made some parts today for the arm and some generic thingies. Need to do some more sketching and figure out a construct for the mechanical arm.

Modelling some accessoires.
I think i am gonna make the legs a bit longer and tighten up her corset to accentuate her hips.

#17

some inspirational images dealing with liberation and gods. The batavian revolt by rembrandt and the surrender of breda by Vel?zquez. hygieia by klimt and 2 pieces of delacroix.

I am really loving the aesthetics of the figure that you’ve incorporated here with the flourishes in the cloth and the armor. It’s also really original that you’re using a lesser known tale. I really must look it up for myself. Keep posting your inspirational images. I’m gobbling them up!

Good luck and look forward to more:)
