Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Michał Bernat
Another idea, another myth. This time Jewish myth about creation of golem. In Jewish folklore, a golem is a creature made of clay(like Adam, the first man), it doesn’t have a soul, because It was created by man,not God. In the late 16th cetury Judah Loew ben Bezalel, chief rabbi of Prague, known as the Maharal, created the golem to defend the prague ghetto from anti-Semitic attacs…to activate the golem, rabbi write on his head(or hand) word “emet” (truth, or reality) I’m painting this moment. The golem is almost finished, the rabbi is standing on the platform and he’s painting “emet” word on the head of his golem…
I was going to do the golem myth too. Although mine would be at an earlier stage of constructing the golem. Haven’t had a chance to draw with my wacom board though. Also I was going to go with the kabbalah/hassidic angle of it.
I don’t have a clear view of my version of golem, but I don’t thing yours will be similar to mine, don’t worry, and paint;]
Yeah yours is more bird like and graceful looking. Mine is going to be a lumbering stout hulk. I will paint after work.
I think they balance the composistion out a lot. But Not sure how they relate to the Golem story. Onlookers? I love the scale of this, its so vast now.
Hey Michal,
Really nice concept, like a lot your sketches and the idea of a really huge Golem, cool!!. Good luck and waiting for more updates on your concept. Cheers!!
