Incredible!! Was hooked the whole 4 minutes. Too bad it isn’t really feature length :stuck_out_tongue:

Man, your short totally amazed me!
Not only because i am crazy about any kind of noir stuff,
but because it has such an intense mood and brilliant camera!

Congratulations!

Great work! I agree that the film noir style to it really gives it a great feeling. And the eyes on your character looked totally real…excellent lighting/shading there!

one man.
one machine.
50 tons of work.
Ulysses’s texture was incredible, way to capture a mood to the fullest with such wonderful detail.
phenomenal job

Thank you all for your cool words, i am glad you like it.

This video was made during my spare time, at home, with one pc (core2 2.4ghz).

i dont made any storyboard, i wanted to be free to change everything at any time.

The process was really simple : keep the modeling and rendering process as simple as possible ... because of the little computer configuration.
So i used basic shapes : spheres, cubes, lines etc...( except for the ulysses head and the "robot" girl).
Posseidon is a combinaison of a simple biped character studio, with fonts i bended on it.
i use his eyes for all the characters and animals in the video.

About 3 pass by shot. 1 color/shadow, 1 z depth, one fog/light and sometimes one for the smoke.

Under 30 secondes of rendering for all the passes together, except for those whith smoke.
when a shot was to long to render, i optimized it : lower the reflections, lower the amount of shadow map and the antialiasing ( big mistake for this one…)
no displacement map, very limited bump, 3 lights maximum ( only one for the shadows ), no final gather.
The environements was made after the animation, to limit the amount of work/render on them.
Because i dont made any story board, there is a lot of rush i dont have used for the final video. But it was the price i paid to be as free as possible, in this conditions of work.

i made the sound myself, with sounds and loop i found on
A [friend]( (niCo Kraken , dit le mouteuX) help me at the end to clean the volume of the soundtrack ( my speakers looks like a yogurt pot ) and he add some nice subb "under it ".

Because of my bad english (as you can see here), i used the demo of a speach synthesizer for the voice.

i enjoyed to work on this video, i learned a lot of things. i hope i will have the chance to work soon on other videos.

thank you !

same video as the final entry, in pal format, mpg2.

and very clever.

I really like this dreamy feeling you gave it,
and you kept a very productive workflow, congratulations!

watching this video fussli, dalì and bunuel came to my mind, wonderful atmosphere.

keep up and good luck!

Great work Marc and well done for finishing…

I think the restrictions you imposed on yourself actually helped give this piece its unique feel and atmosphere. Very inventive use of your resources and a fantastically moody result.

All the best

Your style and mood are GREAT! great story which captured me for the whole movie! Congratulations on finishing and goodluck with the judging!

Keep up the great work, you should be really proud.

How do you intend to release the finished version? Or is the trailer all there is?

Congratulations! I really prayed you would win because i was so in love with your
noir style, et voila!
Well deserved! :applause:

This is by far my favourite entry, was expecting something amazin from Monsieur Mordelet

any case. The realism on the humans is mind boggling to me.
Love the style, rhythm, animation, lighting editing and all the production stuff.

Amazing what speech synthesisers sound like these days.
Really outstanding imho (in my humble opinion) In 2 months?
I don't know, to me this IS the Master Award. But hey, judges differ huh?

Still enjoying the movie. Going to be a while!

PS-- And it’s a four page thread. I’m shocked. Comes to prove popularity really
doesn’t seem to matter that much here. I find that quite encouraging.

Congrats!!!

Very very good. #1 for me. Well done!

awesome work man! congratz to you final crazy result!
