This is my take on Satan as described in John Milton’s “Paradise Lost” which fall’s into the folklore catagory of Epic Poetry.
In book I, the rebel angels and Satan who was an angel himself, had just lost a battle against God. Filled with vengance, Satan vows to rise again and defeat heaven.
My intention behind this was to incorporate the concept of machinery as the “fallen” aspect of Satan. His mechanical wings are alluding to how technology often attempts to imitate the works of God. The fact that Satan has become part machine is a symbol of the alienation he’s acquired from his recent fall from heaven

I basically started out with a quick sketch with pencil on paper then from there I started with a blank canvas in photoshop and went to town on it with various custom brushes. I would consider this to be a conceptual piece that would be illustrating a steam punk style remake of Paradise Lost
