Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Kerti Alev
An idea I had in mind for a while but I have never tried the steampunk style - makes it even more interesting for me. Here is the concept idea and symbolism for the legend.
Should I go for “Hair construction” or “steam backpack”? And what about the whip, I am starting to think it’s not so stylish? Any suggestions?
Wow, very interesting! Your final sketch is far the best, although I think that the backpack ruins her sensuality somewhat… Your hair idea is hard to see right now, could it be detailed a bit more? Could be fun to see
Keep it up, I will follow this one for sure.
Thank you Daxor, first to comment!
I’m struggling in every step with her. I left the hair from above sketch. Think they will be long and very thin wires, have to see how they will look in final steps. Currently I am working on her machine system. And you are right, the backpack looks awkward, need to think something else…
More coming soon…
I started with the line-art to see how her system could look like. I’m still not happy with some details and her face expression…brrr
Hey Kerti,
Really original idea for the concept, like your steampunk twist for the Aphrodite legend, great!
Nice sketches too. Cant wait to see more updates on your concept! Cheers!!
Hi Fernando!
Thanks for positive reply
I think the concept idea is ok yeah, just i hope i can pull it right to the end with even more twists lol.
Now try to give her face more emotional look. Emotion is what matters when it comes to judging, right. She should have this proud and overlooking grin. Let’s see how I can manage that.
Thinking by myself: that should I do now? The face is somewhat pretty but should the machine be pretty? Because she is a beauty goddess, I now understand how hard this concept is going to be for me. Despite of that - I’ll push on.
As I was quite happy with the line-art I wanted to try some rendering. Maybe it is funny to start rendering lights, shadows, colors and textures before I have even decided what the background will be. Well actually I know the overall color scheme and decided where the main light is coming from - didn’t feel like sketching it on canvas. Highlights and some tweaking can be done later ehh…
Revealing bit of the background. I know the composition and perspective ain’t the best, going to fix it.
Hi Alev! thanks for posting.
I have one observation about your aphrodite sketch: i think she’s a bit off-balance, the hips are a bit too offset for the position of the shoulders or the legs. It seems to me that the soulders and/or the legs must be corrected to compensate for the hips. Just an observation. Good Luck!
Hi Lordy, thanks for crits.
About the pose, I’m not sure what to do, I was posing for this myself, so the pose is from a photo reference. I didn’t post the photo for some reasons
Anyway, I decided on weekend that the character alone is not so interesting anyway. I’m going to extend the picture a bit more environmental with two-point perspective, centered.
Not going to post the update so soon. Need to work my hours.
Even if the result is not as stunning as desired, taking part of the contest, viewing all the great entries and their processes is a lot of fun! Can’t wait until I can grab my Intuos pen again.
I understand.
Maybe it’s just some subtle difference in the supporting leg, something feels offplace to me. Lets see how it evolves.
Good luck
Is an original concept, I like! I agree also with the comments of LORDvesalius, but You have the main idea about the pose, looks great for the modern sensual Aphrodite. the colors for the leg are right to me.
Keep it working in-
Hi Nice work so far
i like this sketch : Click!!
I think you characters foot needs adjustment
you need to get your invironment wider in perspective, dont trap the image just lett it be free so the eye can wonder aroun, use light AND dark colors to make a hormonic contras :),your image will be better if it had the colos from white to peach black
Have fun and good luck.
