Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Henrik Jacobson

I really like this! Keep going!

hey Henk,

sorry I haven’t commmented in a while. It really looks like it’s coming along nicely. Although I do have one suggestion…The story of Narcissus is profound because he was obesessed with his own beauty. It would be really cool if you could some how incorporate beauty in this rusted, metal being. Some hint of what once was perfection in his face. I think it would really sell…contrasting the ugliness of the dim lighting, the rusted metal…

I dunno that’s just my take on it. I think it’s going really well so far…but yeah…with the exception of looking in the reflection, I wasn’t really feeling Narcissus before.

KEEP IT UUUUP!

Very nice and dramatic lighting work, and definitely an original Steampunk concept!
Best of luck!

#44

Paperclip I’m glad you do.

domoarigato Yeah, I made the head golden to express that aspect of the subject. I have a few details left on the head though, perhaps some of those could be some kind of ornament or engraving of sorts. But I don’t want to make it too detaild either.
I’m not sure, but I’ll try doing something about it. The subject of Narcissus will be a bit more clear though, after I’ve added a few narcissus flowers here and there. At least for those who know the story. Thanks for the cc.

Varma Thanks and thanks

#45

i like the lighting, but probably give more space/more environment.

my steampunk

#46

Yeah, the last submissions here are cropped and zoomed in fragments of the original dimensions. It’s not this crammed.

Your submission is coming along nicely

#47

ah yes good points there. can’t wait to see how it comes along. Good work, my friend.

#48

nice one ! I like the lighting
good for u Henrik

#49

You have posed the image very attractively! I suggest on adding few more ELEMENTS and GADGETS on the floor grass bed…like twisted screws, broken gears lying around or else the ground will look VERY boring.

Keep it up!:buttrock:

#50

The progress is coming nicely I can see. I like the texture and details. Keep up the good work!

#51

hey henrik,

just a thought, some parts of Narcissus look a bit more like old wood than rusted metal. Does anyone else see this?

-domo

#52

abourabe - Thank ye

mrpeace - Well the thing is that he’s supposed to have just stopped working and fallen over not exploded or anything, so the scathered parts thing wouldn’t really work here. I’m planning on adding a few things to the vegetation so we’ll see how it’ll turn out.

wildcory1 - Thank ye

domoarigato - Hmm, I wonder if you mean that some of the metalparts look more like old wood, or that you mistake the wood of his arm (which it is mostly made of) for metal. If it is the latter then I’ll have to do something about that.

I think this image is awesome, I love it. I happened to have my monitor set up to a projector when i saw this, and the projection seemed to make it much higher contrast, and it really made it look a lot more dramatic, I think you should take a shot as just bumping the contrast a tiny bit in photoshop and see how you like it.

#54

ah…I see, maybe I was wrong. I just thought that maybe the metal looked to much like the wood in some parts? like its hard to tell them apart. Anyway, looks great. It looks like youre almost finished
…great worK!

#55

CitizenSnips Thanks and I’m glad you do. Higher contrast eh? I’ll certainly keep that in mind.

domoarigato M’kay. Yeah I thought about that, waited for a second opinion though. Now that I’ve got it I know it’s not just in my head. I will fix that. Thanks domo

Hi everyone! Back after the holidays with an update.
Sketching on some background ideas, and the perspective.

I have a cold and am quite tired since it’s 4 in the morning here in Sweden :stuck_out_tongue: . So off to bed it is.

#57

Nice update Henrik. The background is coming along nicely.

#58

You think? I was wondering a bit if someone had any tips. I’m trying to decide if the composition is off, or the perspective need something done.

#59

Refined the background, the tree that is. Right now I’m working with the grass bed, and perspective. Not very much left to do. I’ll save the water, reflection etc. for last.

Hope ye dig.

#60

Not much left now. Narcicuss flowers, reeds, water and the reflection. Perhaps some tweaking and polishing too.
