coming into the challenge 10 days late, but hopefully i still have enough time to make it. There goes thanksgiving, christmas, and new years.

After some thinking, I think I see most steampunk characters as a more lean body build, and I’m not about to recreate Hercules into a puny guy. So I decided on the story of Eros (known to most as Cupid) and Psyche. And I know people don’t usually like to read 10 pages of background story so I’m going to sum it up really really briefly and for those who are interested, you could do a search on the web or something  But this is as short as I can make it without the story sounding weird.

Eros and Psyche (the ultra short summary)
Psyche, a mortal girl, has such exquisite beauty that her parents often boasted that their daughter could be more beautiful than Aphrodite (the goddess of love). Angered and jealoused, Aphrodite asked her son, Eros (Cupid), to make Psyche fall in love with the ugliest being alive and make her life miserable. Eros accepted but upon seeing Psyche, falls in love with her instead.

Meanwhile, Psyche has no suitors even tho she is beautiful. After consulting the oracle, her parents brought Psyche to the top of the mountain where Psyche is suppose to meet her husband. Every night Eros, disguised as a young man would go into bed with Psyche and leave before daylight. Psyche never seen him but loves him dearly until one day Psyche’s curiosity to see her husband’s face caused him to fly away in retreat.

Looking for Eros, Psyche stumbled into Aphrodite’s temple and Aphrodite finds all sorts of tasks to make Psyche miserable. After several tasks, Aphrodite sends Psyche to the underworld to ask Persephone (goddess of the underworld) a box of beauty. After getting the box, Psyche thought she might just take a tiny bit of beauty for herself so that Eros would love her more. Upon opening the box, instead of beauty came death and Psyche fell to the groud. Eros, having forgiven Psyche, flew down and saves her. Then Eros begged Zeus to make Psyche immortal because she is now pregnant.

I think I’ll stick to towards the end of the story where Eros rescues Psyche just outside the Underworld after she opened the box of beauty.
Found some classical art piece on the subject.

Thanks raultabajara and the hand!
Will definitely try my best.

Tried working out some poses.
I want Eros to fly down and pick up Psyche while she is unconscious after inhaling the smoke of death.

NOTE: they are NOT going to be naked even though that’s how I drew them. Will add clothes when I know what it’s going to be.
