Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Glen Gramling

#1

Glen Gramling is entered in the “Steampunk Myths and Legends” update: View Challenge Page

Latest Update: Work In Progress: Steambotwip

On the right is an advanced sentient android. On the left is its SteamPunk Spaceship.

The android has a Warp drive self contained in its body, therefor does not technically need the ship for travel. The android, however enjoys the mechanics of the ship and enjoys working on it. He thinks of it much how a modern day mechanic would think of his or her own car, a form of self expression and art form. It also makes for a hospitable environment when having guests.

Another quick sketch of My Steampunk Space ship. I haven’t quite worked out the composition and story yet, any suggestions would be great.

#4

I have been playing with this concept for a while and it just solidified that this would be the perfect opportunity to use it.

Basically about a space fairing Johnny Appleseed that travels to barren planets and gives them life.

#5

Last quick concept sketch, time to start modeling.

#6

Early alien model

I read your post Glen, and I felt to was in the previous challenge “uplift universe”.
What about myth ? Just a question, you look very well organised ( for sure it’s a quality to work with 3D )

#8

Forgive me im not sure i understand your question.

Are you saying you feel this fits in the Uplift universe better?
I didnt realy think about that, but i guess your right it does make sense as an Uplift story.

The Myth and Legend is Johnny Appleseed, he was a man that would travel around America teaching and convincing people to plant trees.

I appreciate the comment but youve just instilled alot of doubt in me

Maybe i should rethink it.

Arg ! sorry I didn’t wanted to put some doubt in your mind.
Just a cultural issue, cause here I didn’t know this legend, and I read it as a “name” without any other sens for me. It will remind for my thread to not take some old french legend, or nobody will understand. I have to think for “multicultural” legend and myth.

#10

You deffinately have a point there, maybe i should also go for a more well known legend. We still have plenty of time to rethink our ideas right :wip:

#11

Sorry to share my doubt, but I’m seeking too some good concept too before dive and invest a lot of hours in this contest. This evening, I read how other challenger took this instructions and start the contest. Very instructive and great to can interact with them.

EDIT : I have my answer, and sorry to share doubt about :

your idea totally feet in the instruction cause of the completion information of the link above…

#12

Allas the doubt you have given me, has inspired me.

I have a new idea i think is much better fitted for what i want to do. Let me do some research and ill post more details.

#13

I think this is Better suited for this challenge.

A Steam Punk Don Quixote. This will have somewhat of an astronaut farmer feel to it. I want to keep my concept of steampunk space travel so this Don Quixote will be venturing out into space with his Steam Ship.

#14

This is the early head sculpt of Don Quixote, he still needs some work before im happy with him, and also hair.

#15

Ho man, I had exactly the same idea (Steampunked Don Quixote).
I’ll have to think about something else…

#16

hehe,… I don’t mind, it would be cool to see someone else’s take on him.

#17

Im not sure it is allowed by the contests rules.
Anyway, Im still not sure Ill participate.
good luck.

#18

Nearly done with the head

#19

nice sketches, you have some intersting ideas, good luck

Im much more comfortable as an organic model than non, so im kinda dreading the gears and such. But thats why i wanted to do this challenge in the first place. Hopefully i can work through it
