Hi,
this was my initial idea for a steam punk myth-character.
I took one of my favourite characters, the faun and tried to spice him up with steam punk elements.
This one here is just a rough anatomical sketch to have something as a basis.
(from foto-reference)

This is my faun sketch with added steam punk elements, still very loose and rough just to get some ideas together.

#4

I thought i’d explore something else.
Since i have always been interested in hindu deitis i chose ganesha, who brings luck on your journey and gives strength on your way.
this is again just the rough figure to build upon.

#5

My update on the ganesha sketch, just added some rough base colors to clearify on the materials (which i still have to render of course) and change some things/add details.

#6

This is what i came up with today.
I think i prefere my ganesha concept over the faun since i have a clearer idea on where the end-product could be headed with ganesha than with the faun.
I just did a color sketch on how to put ganesha into a scene.
I tried to focus on the scene/mood and composition. My next steps will be to clearify the concept a bit and then of course add the steam punk elements to my picture.
I have to say this competition really is fun! I never really had a chance to explore steampunk but i like what i’ve seen so far on the other posts. It’s an interesting theme!
I hope to find to work on this piece tomorrow and to update this thread on a regular basis.
cheers!

Hey, just a small update for today, just sketched in the perspective for the ground tiles, added a bit of a background and defined the curtains a little bit.
i also put some thougts into the statues besides ganesha but im not sure whether to include them since they are mroe or less blocked by the curtain. maybe one of you has any idea on this issue?
thanks for looking!

#12

Hey sorry for the long delay but i have been really sick the last 2 weeks.
laying in bed all day having a fever and what not, but im all better now so i continued on my picture.
so far i got rid of the flags (for now!) roughed in a floor with tiles, gave it a bit of a more glamorous frame and started to steampunk the maincharacter. the colors a re just placeholders for the different materials of course.
if you have any tips for me i’d love to hear them!
greetings

This is my final entry,
based on the indian god ganesha.
he is the one you pray to whenever you need guidance for your journey.
He is worshipped as Lord of Beginnings and Lord of Obstacles, patron of arts and sciences. I have always been impressed by his dignified appereance and his calmness, yet sleeping power and potency.
