the weather looked promising this thursday morning, but the forecast was telling other stories. Heavy rain and storms could turn the coalmine of Golpa III into a mess of mud and dirt very soon. Also Walter had recognised the obsolete construction was long overdue to be replaced by a new machine of steel. Later in the day he would have to call the maintenance team again to ask for a replacement of the frontal hydraulic pump. Every now and again oil was dripping from it. He didn’t want to risk the lives of his crew. Walter was well aware that he had to keep supplying enough coal to the cities… tbc

inspiration came from those huge mountains of steel that were used for coalmining in the German Democratic Republic. Right now they made a re-naturalization project of a former mining area. It is called “Ferropolis” and it is found in the eastern part of Germany. Some of the machine are exhibited over there. I like these vast but also fragile machines, can hardly imagine they once worked.

I enjoy the challenge. Good luck to everybody.

A male and female full body enhancement suit, especially used for maintenance tasks in heavy machinery

As I just thought about the challenge again I realized I wasn’t really incorporating the myths and legends thing into my contribution. So I just had the idea to translate and work the legend of Icarus and Daedalus into my story. My two characters will be flying through rough conditions and one of them will get high-spirited and do something hazardous. I only ask myself if it is allowed to have a female Daedala instead of two guys flying around. Will this be accepted as artistic freedom?

The two will get steam-powered body suits that enable them to fly. I think I will layout my scene at the most dramatic moment of the story when one of them has a tragic accident…

After finally finding the right story that fits to the myths and legend part of the challenge, I drew a quick sketch to see how the comp may look like. I already figured out the mechanics for the wing construction and will start to go 3D this evening.
