Whenever tackling a project, especially as large as this one, its important to go about it in an organized and structured manner.

  1. The first step is to fully understand the project and your responsibility.
What kinds of restrictions are there. What is the main focus and theme? What is the client looking for specifically. What formats and software are required? Most importantly, when is it due.

  2. The next step is to make a plan. Write out a general plan with key points to keep you on track. Main points by week, finer details scheduled throughout the days. This allows you to understand where you stand and what needs to be accomplished to make your goals. Also don’t get too bogged down by the details. Remain flexible with the overall goal in mind. DEADLINE!

  3. Okay, before you get modeling you need to stimulate your creative brain. REFERENCE! It is the key for all good artists. It shows the difference between professionals and newbs. Go online, or get a book to reference off of. Get as much as possible in a wide variety. It may be parts and bits that may help inspire detail in your piece, similar subjects to reference off of, materials, lighting, whatever you can get, especially if your going for a specific style or theme. Find things to help you on your way.

  4. Now that youve got the goal, the plan, and the reference, take some time befor you start to let your brain grasp it all. Study your reference, make sure you have everything set up (I suggest granola bars and healthy snack, and some peppy wake up music!) and ready to go. Don’t kill yourself, but push yourself to do better and go a little farther then you would have. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice, and do so promptly. Don’t push it off till the last minute…It just doesn’t work that way.

Well good luck and have fun!
