Latest Update: Work In Progress: Nessie Body

#2

Hi all,
I’m new to the forum and this is my first cgsociety challenge. I love the concept hence the reason i’d like to have a go.

I’m Scottish so i thought i would do a Loch Ness monster type concept. Although I’m having a hard time working out how steam power would work underwater…

My other idea was to create a Cerberus type robot guarding Hades.

I’ll upload some sketches as soon as i make a decision!

#3

I have decided to do a Loch Ness smugglers scene…

Nessie is a Nautilus type steam machine used by smugglers to transport bootleg whisky. :)

This is the scene kinda blocked out. I will be adding stuff, a cave for the booze and whatnot for example.

#4

just a start, i have some sketches but no scanner yet…

Hi there and welcome to this forum :wavey:

I think it´s a nice idea the mythical Nessy, hehe.

Godd luck!!

Hi Dominic
I’m doing a Nessie picture too only the other way round. My monster is from Daz 3d but I’m making the Nessie hunters equipment. Good luck with the challenge.

not much of an update, been quite busy recently.
i have blocked out the body to get an idea of the scale.

Thanks for the words of encouragement from everyone.

#9

just trying out some shaders.

#10

another thought…

#11

a bit more work on the body. I will probably move some stuff around a bit more.

#12

you got a really cool idea. i like the nessie so far, the shaders you’ve got are nice too. good work so far.

#13

ho ho, found you!

it loooks awesome!

#14

Nice models so far!

I have been thinking about how to do an underwater steam powered vehicle too. I did that steampowered jet ski which is less problematic. I believe that the only feasible way is to run a snorkle, which you luckily have built into Nessie. Deisel subs use a snorkle when powering their deisel engines and generators then switch to electric motors when they fully submerge.

Underwater steam vehicles are possible…and have been built during times of history.
Even nuclear power submarines are categorized under STEAM because it provides power through heat…I am doing an underwater character as well. I did a lot of research on submarine technology, which is how I came across such information.

Good luck!

#16

Some moving clogs for the exhaust pips will keep the water out while it’s submerged.

Great idea btw.

#17

A simple and great concept. Looking foward for updates!

#18

nice work there like the brass:cool:

#19

thats not a myth or legend mate …

that happens all the time up here …

good stuff, keep it up …

Don’t worry about the steam underwater concept; I myself am doing illustrations of a steam-powered mermaid
Just be sure to maintain the visual reference to the fact that in this case Nessie is a transport vehicle, so emphasize the control surfaces and the possible steering planes. Check out my post and tell me what you think vis-a-vis underwater steam-mythos.
