The Headless Horseman is a traditionally American myth or legend that has the unique luck to have many versions to the tale. I do not own up to any particular story in my image, but instead offer bits of homage to the more popular variations.
I have created a bit of backstory to my personal version of this tale.
The Steampunk Headless Horseman featured here goes back to an inventor, crazed in the head many would say - well, his goal was to bring sentience to a suit of armor, with a mechanical horse as its mount. During an electrical storm, the suit absorbed the life force of the inventor somehow… nobody knows how it happened, but you know those crazy inventors… they like to take things a step too far. The problem with this however, is that the suit was not completed… there was no head. And a soul doesn’t know what to do without its head.
Now the Headless Horseman rides up and down the countryside searching for just that perfect head, using its finely crafted tools for the job at hand.
Image was created entirely in Photoshop, save for the sketch.
