Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Anthony Ostermiller
I am going to attempt to create an image of the Rocketeer racing an Art Deco style steam engine.
Working on the concept drawings now, will upload them soon.
Some nice work so far, and it definitely looks like the Rocketeer… However, that may not necessarily be a good thing. The Rocketeer is not a myth or legend, it’s a relatively recent story… a good one, admittedly, and Dave Steven’s art is terrific… but it’s not a myth.
If you make the rocket steam-powered, it will cover the steam-punk half of the contest topic. It still wouldn’t cover the “myths and legends” part of the theme. Not to say you can’t do it, it would just not be judged as well compared to entries that were covering both “Steampunk” and “Myths and Legends.”
I wasn’t really going for judging, I really want to try something new, and a little more artistic than what I’ve done in the past.
Besides, the following has a list of steampunk works:

Rocketeer is under the title: Films - Note: most of the films listed are steampunk-related either through narrative or by thematic context.
Could I have picked a more obvious theme, sure, but then again the Iron Giant is of the same time period and is featured on the front page of this challenge.
This is as far as I got. I didn’t get to spend as much time on it as I wanted. But I am satisfied with the results for the little amount of time I spent on it. Hopefully the next challenge I enter won’t have a few holidays in the middle of it to monopolize my time
