Hello! A bit of a late start here! Hopefully there is still time.

The Story is about the birth of Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom and Skill, during the battle of the Giants.

To give a short prelude to her birth I will recount the following:

Zeus Lay with Metis, the daughter of Oceanus (the father and originator of all things) and Tithys (his wife). Metis concealed within herself all the world?s wisdom and when it became known to Zeus that Metis was pregnant a prophecy was uttered. This prophecy said that her daughter would in turn bear a child that could propose a threat to Zeus and he would deprive him of his powers.

Zeus, becoming aware and fearing this, swallowed Metis whole. Nine months later, during the battle of the giants, Zeus developed an unbearable pain in his head. The God Begged Prometheus (the God of Fire and he who gave fire to man) to split his head open.

Upon doing this Athena Sprung out, fully armoured, bellowing war cries. She made a significant contribution to the winning of the war against the Giants killing Pallus and Enceladus.

The Giant I am depicting is Enceladus; The Giants sprang from drops of blood that dropped to the earth when Cronus castrated Urnanus. They have snakes for hair and dragons for tails. Ge gave birth to these creatures immediately after the battle of the Titans (as the Gods incarcerated her children, the Titans, in Tartarus) in order to have vengeance on the Gods.

The Giants demolished mountains, trembled the earth, moved rivers and enraged the sea to engulf the land.

Enceladus himself was slewn by Athena who buried him under earth (which eventually created Sicily, more specifically he was buries under Mt. Etna, and it is said every time he breathes Mt. Etna gets agitated?)

In relation to the Steampunk aesthetic I am creating Enceladus as a more low-tech steam-powered robot. One who takes the mountains and rivers that he has destroyed and uses it to power himself. He is a giant, one with lack of morality and bent on destruction.

To Athena I am going to try aim for a more steam meets electrical aesthetic. This is symbolic not only in that she killed Enceladus through mastery of wisdom and skill but also in regards to how electricity superseded steam power.

Zeus himself who has had his head slip open is nearly in-between the two. Without the help of Athena and Heracles then may have fallen, so he is part steam powered with potential. I am portraying his head split open not as the demise of him but as you would describe as a controlled explosion where all the parts can re-organise themselves to re-created himself.

Prometheus will be on the far right, after just splitting Zeus? head open.

The aim is for a dynamic picture. In part set up like the Greek relief?s explaining itself from left to right as a portrayal of a story. It?s going to be a major challenge and I have just over a week to produce it! I hope you like the concept, and there are some amazing entries here so far! So good luck once again to one and all, and thank you if you have read this far!

Here I have worked up the 4 main charactors somewhat. Got a good start to the pose for Athena (it’s going to be a tricky pose!) and a rough block in of Prometheus.

For Enceladus I am thinking along that lines that there are thousands of mini-burners within him powering all parts of him rather than one centralised engine, although the next step will be to tidy up the design elements of him and prometheus then drop in some colour!
