Hi there, all you talented 3d people:
I’m Michael Schmitt, a filmmaking enthusiast who has directed 19 short films since 2002 through Group 101 Films. Several of my films have been in digital film festivals, four of them have aired on AMC movie channel and ABC television and two of them have won awards: “Best Animated Film” at the LA Purely Digital Film Festival and on Sunday, 1/23/05 I won “Best Short Film” in the America’s Funniest Video short film festival.
Over the last six months I have been meandering through production of a Star Wars fan film. Taking my time and having fun with it and planning to take a Maya class at GNomon in hopes of learning enough about 3d to animate a few short space sequences that involve a broken-down Rebel Starfighter rolling along the hull of a Star Destroyer.
Now I learn that there is a Star Wars fan film contest with an entry deadline of March 8! Time to step up and get this thing finished, if it can be done. Due to the deadline, I can’t possibly expect to learn the skills it would take to do this sequence in time. So I’m faced with either scrapping the sequence or finding outside help.
So here I am asking you, talented 3d artist, for your help. I can make you a quick animatic for the sequences, I have 3d models of the star ships and star destroyer available. Will you help me, take these files and create the sequences this film needs to be complete? I can’t pay you, but will be happy to buy you lunch and give you a copy of the DVD when it’s done.
And, of course, screen credit! It’s not much, but credits add up. I will be submitting this to other festivals later this year. Probably after tweaking what I submit to the contest at hand.
I can send you a PDF of my script, if you like, and you can see if the effects would be challenging and exciting to you. Like I said, I have 3d models available and you would get to animate them and render them on your system.
Hopefully you are interested. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Mike
