Star Trek fan film beats pro entries on first TV Guide Web Award

#1

The Star Trek New Voyages episode “World Enough and Time” (featuring George Takei) has won TV Guide’s Best Sci-Fi Webisode Award. It beat out entries from The 4400, Battlestar Galactica and Afterworld.

Considering this is a Fan film and that it beat professional entries this is a big deal:

The visual effects of the short were supervised by
Ron Thornton (Babylon V)

That was actually quite good - Even though it has different actors it really felt like it was genuine Star Trek! Was it based on a screenplay that never made it into production? I really enjoyed it.

One thing - the guy who plays Kirk actually reminded me of Stephen Collins(Will Deckard) from ST:The Motion Picture. That was an added bonus!

the Students did an amazing job!

Lee Stringer (BSG, Firefly,Serenity) was also heavily involved in the VFX supervision, I can’t remeber what credit was giving to him in the Credits but he was there just about every day working with the students.

Indeed well done and a treat to watch. “Sulu’s” daughter at the end sure looked like the daughter in Star Trek Generations as helmsman. Too bad it can’t be save to watch on big screen unless it’s out soon for download.

I noticed alot of the films coming out of the Dave school feature copyrighted material (Batman, Star Trek, Legos). My question to those working and studying at Dave school is, do you have to get special permission to use these characters or since it is not-for-profit, that is not needed. I ask because the university I work for is concerned when instructors use copyrighted material in their class. Thanks.

Yeah I am interested in this as well.

We worked with WB for Batman, Marvel for Xmen, WizKids for MechWarrior, etc.

So far they have all been very easy to work with.
