Spotlight Value Decay

#1

In Maya 2012, I have set up a spotlight that is going through a fog created by a fluid gradient system and the overall lighting is too even throughout. I have been using the decay region option, but it is still not getting the effect I want. I want the light to be brighter near it’s source.

Set the decay rate to Cubic or Quadratic.

I have tried that before. Nothing comes up in the render view even when I crank up the intensity. I am trying out intensity curves as well.

#4

Are you using a linear gamma workflow? When you’re not using it, the falloff doesn’t work well.

#5

I’ve got it working now. I wasn’t aware how extremely high the intensity had to be set for the decay rates to work. Thank you.

#6

If you’re using a linear workflow, you’ll find that the values don’t have to be nearly as high to work right.
