Spontaneous color change whenever I use a brush

#1

Hi all

Has anyone had this problem? The photo on the left is how my painting loads into painter X (it’s also how it looks in photoshop and is how I want it to look). On the right is what happens the moment I touch the canvas with any brush - some of the blues change to greens. It takes about 2 seconds, moving from the top of the image down to the bottom. It happens as I said with any brush; oils, pastels, art pen, chalk, etc. But not with anything else (e.g. eraser, arrow, pen tool, dodge/burn etc).

My system is color managed and both Painter and Photoshop are set up identically in that respect. I checked with my last painting; it does the same thing now, although it never did while I was working on it.

I use an intuos 3.

has anyone ever heard of this before?

thanks !

Check the impasto toggle icon on the right of the canvas. If it changes when you use the brush it might be because it’s impasto / configured for depth (having said that the screen dumps appear the same to me)

Hi

Thank you ! Jinny Brown at Painterfactory told me something similar, and it seems to be partly correct. I’ve got to do more thinking about this to see if I grasp the details of how/when etc.

p.s. The biggest difference is in the horizontal beam in the middle of the picture; it’s more green and the overall pic is lighter with less contrast.
