Space Wasteland

Hello,
I’ve started this project recently as I wanted to do a kind of remake of my older image that didn’t turn out as expected due to lack of time and other issues. So now I have more time and better hardware to test my skills on something bigger than usual.
It’s supposed to be a space scene with these weird rocky fragments floating around, some spaceships flying through them and some other stuff that will be added later.

Here’s a base render from 3ds max. Original mesh was created in RealFlow and then I tweaked it in max and added some displacement.

Here’s some postproduction done mainly in Fusion which I prefer when handling with large images as it performs a bit faster than Photoshop in many tasks.

Now I’m painting some details on the rocks. It’s just very rough and I’ll be tweaking the opacity of the cracks to match the lighting. Also some parts of the base render will be repainted as it looks pretty weird in some parts. But I was planning that from start so I didn’t pay too much attention to the mesh itself as it was going to be heavily retouched anyway.

So here’s a small crop of the image with some details that can show how it’ll look.

This is looking really cool - and kinda like something I’ll be needing to do in the near future, so I’m curious as to how you go about it.
