something like hypervoxels in xsi

#1

hi there all of you with experience of both lightwave and xsi.

I have no experience at all of xsi and Im wondering if xsi has a good volumetric voxel system similar to hypervoxels, and is it easy to set up and preview, is there a preview system like Lightwaves viper?

I might take a look at a xsi demo later on, but right now im having problems with my computer that keeps freezing and locking itself.

Yep The BA Shaders are built in to XSI v7

thats interesting, especially if it handles applying volumevoxels on to geometry shapes better than Lightwave does,as lightwave applies it to an objects vertices or points or particles and I have not been satisfied on how hypervoxels blends together on objects.

But Is there a preview system in xsi to preview them fast as in viper for lightwave or do I have to render them out for every tweak that is made?

I haven´t come across anything in other applications that match the speed and how easy voxels are to setup in Lightwave, but it is those things on how they blend together that Ive been annoyed with for quite sometime …so if there´s no new hypervoxel system update that can fix this I would surely take a look at some other tools.

Its crazy fast for some things you can usually get things roughed in and the tweak for final.
It is faster that hypervoxels and other volume systems I have used like afterburn pyrocluster ect.
More flexible as well
There is a cool tut up on his binaryalchemy that shows how to create a sky out of a cube
that is pretty impressive.

The “preview system” is called Render Region and will work very well

There’s also a “Preview” mode in the shader. So you can turn that on to take previews and tweak the shader.
It’s already super fast anyway
