Thought I would toss up a few examples of some matte paintings/animations that I have worked on since I have posted comments on some of your work.

Thanks for sharing Mark, hope to see more of your work here, I spent a long time looking at the Bladerunner matte, it was like looking at the whole film again.

Once again many thanks and welcome to the forum.

Hi Mark! Great works!

I have a question though, and I aplogize for my ignorance… your blade runner mattepainting, was that from the movie itself? Or did you recreate it?

Once again greats works… hope to see more from you soon

Now that’s a compliment : )

Yes… EffectDesign was hired to do all the custom CGI work for a museum in the USA that celebrates the works of Science Fiction (Science Fiction Hall of Fame in Seattle, Wa.) - we recreated panaramic cityscapes from famous works , which ended up to being just The Matrix, Jetsons, and Bladerunner (original RFP was for 20 cities but budget reworks cut that way down).

I had a great team to work with - and the shots were locked off so most of them became matte paintings that I did in photoshop (on top of rougher GI renders done in 3dsmax) and handed these off to my lead compositor (Chris Crowell) who put it all together in Shake.

There are some short comings of the animations due to the tight budget (lack of reflections, more atmospheric perspective , etc), and the creative direction was to do the layout for “show/entertainment factor” and not to strive for a total match of the movie - so some of the buildings were rescaled to fit the shot - but overall I really liked how it came out.
