Solving a still shot

Hey guys quick question.

I’ve got a film project for uni we were shooting over the weekend, one of my jobs was to model a machine that has to be in a certain location and we had all of this planned out.

Problem is on the day of the shooting only 3 people out of 8 showed including the actors, we had to shoot something because we had limited time with the equipment so the whole thing was kind of being made up as we went along which led to a stupid oversight on my part.

Thinking back now (I’ll be getting the footage tomorrow) the camera was still and on a tripod and as far as I’m aware it didn’t move and no movement means no parallax and no parallax means nothing to track and with no track there’s no solve.

Right now I’m opening up to the idea that I’ll have to eyeball it in Maya and just try my best to get it to line up but there must be a technique for doing this accurately?

Place a dummy object on one point of the object in the background. Link a camera to that dummy object. Use the dummy for rotating the camera and zoom or track the camera until it matches. Knowing the used focal length and rough positions(distance from camera to subject, height of camera etc) helps.
