Solid colors into masks?

#1

Hi. Simple question. I rendered a number of things out in 3DsMax for one of my scenes and used different object IDs so it gave me those separate frames with different solid colors for each object ID. I was wondering if it’s possible to use those solid color IDs as masks for my actual rendered layers in a compositing program like After Effects or some other one.

On a similar note, I rendered out only 1 object out of the scene into a TIFF sequence where everything that is not the object is transparent alpha. Can I use that TIFF sequence to mask out things using that 1 object as a mask?

Here is one of my object ID frames where I want the yellow to act as a mask for another layer:

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Why not use the object IDs directly, using the ID Matte effect?
