I agree with this for the most part, but sometimes it’s nice for everyone to have answer to a simple question on the forums instead of everyone shooting the same question to support. Most questions would be cleared up if there was simply better information to begin with anyway. It would probably cut down on emails to support AND trivial forum posts.
Softimage 2010
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying people shouldn’t be posting about this here.
For as long as the discussion is civilized and people from AD obviously keep reading and commenting, this is clearly a good place for discussion to happen.
What I’m saying is that it shouldn’t be the only channel, and AD should be notified about what their customer base thinks are issues with their communication channels and/or practices.
Of course they are an evil corporation (we all know that
), and of course there will be plenty things going unheard or unacted on, but there are also many things that they can address with little effort, or feedback that will trigger internal policy revision (I know this first hand), so all in all:
A) it doesn’t hurt
B) it gives more legitimacy to our whinging if and when we feel like broadcasting it in other forums as well if it’s also been flagged to “the authorities” through official channels, which always makes the satisfaction you get from the whinging a lot more
Everyone on Subscription should have access to the download. Some customers don’t, and the Subscription Center team is working now on fixing that problem.
Unfortunately, it turns out that this download problem is not something that Autodesk Business Center can fix on a case-by-case basis.
The 2010 Trial is available for download now, so you can get 2010 installed on your system.
I usually don’t post too much on here, because a lot of the threads lately have seemed to be filled with negativity, so I thought I would post a positive comment about my dealings with Autodesk today.
I just went online to check my subscription status for Softimage 2010, and it still said that I only had access to Softimage 7.5 and not 2010. So, I decided to call customer support and inquire about my issue. I spoke with Monica in the Subscription Support Area, she was extremely nice and very helpful. She double-checked to make sure I was able to receive 2010, which I was, and she immediately got approval to do a manual update to my account so I can get 2010. It will be in the mail tomorrow and available for download. So far, I have been very pleased with my dealings with Autodesk and their Support team, whether it be technical or product related, I have never been left in the dark yet.
Sometimes picking up a phone and going through the proper lines of communication can resolve your issue in no time, rather than ranting on forums…
Ok, so I’m absolutely loving the demo of 2010. Can someone tell me the difference between XSI and XSI advanced? I can’t find anything on the Auotdesk Softimage website. Great marketing…jeeez:rolleyes:…lol:)
Nevermind found it. They couldn’t have buried that blurb any deeper on the purchase page …“Softimage Advanced 2010 includes all of the features of Softimage 2010 plus five seats of mental ray® Batch renderer.”…ammm that’s it? Wow.
Is there a street date for 2010 yet? The Autodesk site says ‘coming soon’ still and this thread says it was available to subscribers about a couple weeks ago. They did the same thing with 3ds max 2010 - subscribers had access for about 3-4 weeks prior to the public street date.
I just dug this up: http://www.motionmedia.com/announcement/Release%20Dates%20for%20New%20Autodesk%20Software
And it says Sept 14 which was last monday.
I think that explains it. I have to handle the Installation Support for the student versions (pretty much nationwide) and the Education Suite they switched to starting shipping last week, too. However, there were no SI disks in the box. Worse yet, there was no explanation of why there was no disk in the box. The educational versions tend to lag behind the commercial versions anywhere from 2-4 weeks. Seems like the answer to the missing disk is it simply didn’t exist when they made the suites and didn’t think adding an explanation was worthwhile. Genius, i tell you. Sheer Genius
Just purchased Softimage 2010, and I couldn’t agree more.
Face Robot is hilarious, and integrated into the application is better than ever.
Not to mention the performance improvements…
I went for a Quad core CPU, and finally, applications start to actually stimulate all cores!
I mean, EVERYTHING is great in this release.
Period.
Well except for the couple bugs that appear to break some key plugins of mine such at emRenderPoint cloud and emFluids. I hope they get that all fixed up very soon.
It most likely isn’t bugs that might break those plugins.
It’s quite atypical for Soft to break backward compatibility of their API(s) compared to other vendors, but this time around it was done for very good reasons.
ICE has seen quite a few much needed API changes, and that obviously affects some ice/ice cloud related plugins.
The author of em* was actually part fo the last leg of beta afaik, and beside being a generally awesome guy, had a fair bit of back and forth with Soft, mostly about porting forward the plugins. I’m sure it won’t be very long before new releases come out that will work in 2010.
Does anyone have 2010 co-installed with 7.5?
I don’t want to mess with my 7.5 install until the latest project is finished up, but am wondering if I can share the license file(s) between them just fine so I can at least dabble in FR and test the new over all responsiveness etc.
Getting my pc tomorrow. Its good to be back in xsi land
From what I heard this release is a animators dream come true (performance wise)
but it crashes so much…
I’ve Trial-Softimage2010 and every time I try to start Softimage2010 after 3-5 min. I get a message box that says, Problem bla bla, then it crashes.
man I hate Softimage 2010…
Quoting Mr. Stephen Blair from this thread on the Area:
The 2010 license is a separate license. The 2010 license replaces your 7.5 license. (…) If you are on Subscription, then your 2010 license will allow you to run 2010 or 7.5.
It seems however impossible to have 7.5 and 2010 open at the same time…
Try updating your video drivers. 2010 is quite stable, and even on my laptop I didn’t have any issues.
Sounds like a configuration issue more than a 2010 issue.
It is by a very long shot the most stable release of Soft since 3.x days for me, and one of the most stable 3Dapps I’ve used in general (not that it’s free of quirks, but I got very few crashes with normal operation).
I’d look into your OS/drivers/environment combo first to be honest.
