softdrag with radial falloff

#1

hi.

is there a way to modify the soft drag tool so it behaves like the drag net tool in lw or the move point tool with proportional modeling on in xsi?

i simply want to “draw” the influence area once and then this influence area should maintain its size no matter which point i want to move.
when for example using the soft move tool the influence area always resizes itself depending on the point i select.

cheers chris

well softdrag works like already the way you want, or at least it should, because it works here, only difference between dragnet and softdrag is that, dragnet had geometry falloff, sofdrag has screenfalloff

try resetting your tool, you may have change settings.

or try making one, enable move tool and screen falloff and auto action center

I think what chris means is that he wants the falloff of softdrag to be exactly like dragnet’s. Just try softdragging the edge of a model and you’ll start seeing that it doesn’t act exactly like dragnet. I think what’s needed is a radial/spherical falloff that’s as quick and easy as the screen falloff.

well you will need to change the size if you zoom in and zoomout, due to “screen” fall off (which is a 2d fall off) . screen falloff can be good and bad, but definetely we need 3d geometry falloff, which originally dragnet has. and i heard that they may implement it at some point

you can use airbrush fall of with move, but current implementation of airbrush falloff with transform tools, it does not work that great, because you will need to adjust amount of move or rotate you want to make than paint the falloff, which is a drag actually (but if they implement wacom pressure sensitivity, that would not be problem)

thats what i mean.

the soft drag mode only works 2 dimensional … if a point lies directly behind another point so that you can’t see it, it doens’t get influenced by the tool.

off course i could turn on “transparent” but that also not what i want … i want just a sprerical falloff that i adjust once

ah ok … hopefully they implement it in the next update

#7

for that kind of situation i turn on wireframe. that wont work only in opengl shaded view. it works little better when it is wireframe. but again it is not the same thing

#8

thanks for the tip with the wireframe mode kursad … but i anyway hope they implement something like dragnet soon
