Smoothing Issues

Hey everyone I’m having a few problems working out why my model is smoothing like this.

I have been playing with the tris a bit to try make it better but nothing seems to work. here is the tris

I have no idea why this is happening the polys should all be flat no massive twist is taking place but the smooth modifier makes it seem like there is.

Try applying a Smooth modifier(not Turbosmooth or Meshsmooth) or adjust the smoothing groups in Edit Poly.

I have applied the default smooth modifier.
I’m not sure how to adjust the smoothing groups I’ll take a look at that.

I don’t think its smoothing groups.

Apply a different smoothing group to the holes’ top and bottom part as well as both sides. Next try to triangulate as best as you can to minimize shading issues. You could add some edgeloops all the way around the cylinder since you’ve got very long tris. Also note that you’re cutting a lot of geometry detail into a bigger shape that doesn’t really support it.

If this is supposed to be a game res model then you should really normal map that detail anyway.
