Smoothing an already skinned model

Sometimes it happens with FBX imports that the mesh is not smooth. My standard solution to this problem is: EditablePoly -> Select all Edges -> Weld

The problem now is that the model has a skin modifier. In this case I cannot convert the editable mesh to an editable poly and no modifications are allowed.

Is there a way to get the model smooth? I don’t change the number of vertices by smoothing so that should be possible.

ps: Sorry, I am only a developer and not a modeler. My question may be trivial.

I found a solution myself the ‘editable Mesh Welder Modifier’ is my friend it does not destroy the skinning.

You could try to use a turbosmooth modifier.

turbosmooth would definitely break the skinning, as mentioned above I have already found a solution.
