I think what you need is depth and sense of scale, even though the composition is simple, it works, but you need depth in the clouds and the sens of atmosphere in the palace, you have to work with levels , bright/dark , look for reference , and try to learn from it by just looking at it, see what makes them look so cool and realistic and your brain will figure it out and you’ll be able to reproduce it in your work

looking forward to see more of you

Thanks Jamesvfx ur awesome tips! I’ve been playin around with the burn and dodge tool increasing some contrast between the cloud layers, but I think I need to work on that a little bit more … creating depth is sure hell of a challenge >.<’

I gave the palace a little more blur to give the a little more fantasy-like impression, I think it melts better into the pic than the first one. ^^

And one thing I haven’t really figured out is how to create the sense of scale, should I add something more into the picture (moon, stars or meteor etc.) as refrence or are there any other ways?? :o

thanks again

Ok now I’ve played some more with the colors and brightness/contrast. I thinks the cloulds look better than before and Im really curious hearing ur opinions!

Anyway, I think I nailed the aspect of capturing the scale of the building by adding a group of birds hovering around the left tower.

To spice the picture up a little I added some misterious glowing spririt-fog-like thing. Maybe it’s too much but I can’t really decide that right now

now it’s too fantasy  You also need to integrate the castle better where it meets the clouds. Last but not least, everything bellow clouds should be darker since they are very thick and cover most of the cloud plane…

Suirebit: laugh yeah I sort of drifted off  but anyhow, any tip or guidance of how I should work with the clouds at the palace?? I’ve made some attempts … and sort of lost hehe ^^’

Woa… I didn’t think of the light beneath the clouds xD Thanks!  Yeah, I’ll work with that when time allows me to! ^^
