Skin shader Mini tut/experiment

#1

I was trying to create a skin shader with only the C4D base tools, and I think I came up with an interesting solution, so I thought I would share a mini tut to help beginners and discuss the idea :

You can see it here :
Here

It basicaly involves a layer shader in the luminance channel with the following stack of sublayers :

  • White SSS shader on top in multiply mode to control intensity
  • Epidermal map (greyish)
  • Black (surface) to white (inside) gradient SSS shader to blend epidermal to subdermal color as lights go deeper.
  • Subdermal map (redish)

You get a nice effect on the ears when backlit.
Note : Shadows must be activated to avoid transparency artifacts.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the tut. SSS skin shaders in C4D have always been problematic for me. Nice results!
