So I’ve been trying to create a realistic skin for a model I’m working on:

So far I gotten no further then a base color with a softening specular map that looked flat and boring or a messy multicolored diffuse map.
The tutorials I found seemed only to focus on how to slap a photo on a 3d model.
I was wondering if any of you might have a tutorial available that goes into the details of a skin material. How to mimic the fuzzy hairs on the face, different skin on different parts of the body, which areas have a slight translucency to it, how to add veins without making your model look sick, etc.
Any short advises or helpful literature will be appreciated too of course!
