Hey everybody, just figured I should start up a sketchbook thread to keep me on task with doing some daily sketches to work up the rusty old atrophied skills into something more limber and useful.:smiley:

Funny, I like your use of ā€œwandersā€. True it does kind of drift a little to his left, I didnā€™t keep a copy of the reference to compare, but I think that may have been my hand wandering a bit. :smiley:

Thanks for looking, Iā€™ll have a couple more today hopefully, but then Iā€™ve got to get to some more work on some of my other projects.

He also has a great book, sold off of his site, which presents an excellent and simple way to draw. I really recommend it! :slight_smile:

Hereā€™s some more, 1 15 minute, and a 45 minute sketch. And no I didnā€™t slack on the hands for the bodybuilder guy, the picture I was using just doesnā€™t show them, but I wanted to sketch the guy anyways, as he was kind of comical looking with his huge muscles and equally huge stomach. :smiley:

Ok, I figured I needed to get some figure/gesture sketches in, so time for some nitty gritty quick stuff.

Allrighty hereā€™s a sketch from Painter. This one was some work. I havenā€™t done anything in Painter for ages, plus I wanted to get in some digital color sketching anyways, so I started out thinking I would just do some quick sketches and get used to Painter again. But I was so rusty with it I had to take some time to just reorient myself with the controls. I ended up taking a few hours on this piece to get it where it is now, and Iā€™ve gotta stop for now, so here you go.

Ha ā€¦ interesting i just sketched the same photograph yesterday with pen and paper :eek: ā€¦ you definitly did a great job on the face which was not that easy for me to draw ā€¦ very nice work, keep them coming :thumbsup: :buttrock:

:slight_smile: Yeah I noticed that too, funny. Did you get it from www.characterdesigns.com? Thanks on the face, the nose is actually too long though but I was more or less happy with the exercise. Her poses are very dynamic so I would imagine Iā€™ll probably do some more later as well.

Some more stuff, trying to get in some Burne Hogarth as well.

Love that arm! I knowā€¦ the middle two fingers are too short, almost got it perfect though.

Should of skipped on the shading on this one, spent all my time on the perspective (the feet may be a little off as they werenā€™t in the photo, so I had to do my best), but I got started on it before I knew what I was doing and then just did a rush job to finish it up (I already spent longer than I had wanted to on it as it is).

ā€¦ some very nice new sketches windar, i specially like the first and the second. As you mentioned already the third one have some foreshortening problems on the Legs ( feets ), they look too short somehow ( imo ) ā€¦ keep them coming :buttrock:

You know, of all these new sketches i like the 9min female pose the best.
The curve representing the calf of her left legā€¦ very very nice!
Really love the spontanity that shows there

boeser_wolf: I was thinking maybe I should leave the left foot cut off like it is in the photo, but I didnā€™t want to be accused of welching on my feet. :shrug: haha.

NR43: Thanks I kept myself pretty loose on that one, I should probably do more of those, that was what one of my fine art teachers back at college always pushed for me personally to do.

RebeccaK: Thanks, Iā€™ll keep it up. Been a little busy trying to finish up a 3D model, but I wonā€™t neglect the sketching entirely.:slight_smile:

Hereā€™s a painter sketch, took about an hour. Not really finished, just working on form, and getting in the basic light and darks with a little more detail. I would have done more, but I didnā€™t want to spend too much time on this one.

Hereā€™s a couple of the same subject, a full figure quick sketch, a close quick detail on the hand and a nice long one of the head.

Good practicing man! You might want to study some more on the construction of the head (dheck out Loomis!) to gain more confidence. Keep going!

Thanks batte812, Iā€™ve actually got one of his books around here already, would be a good idea to crack it back open again though.

Hereā€™s a new piece for now, was going for a speed paint of a ā€œfinishedā€ composition, took 72 minutes, used photo reference for lady. Worked out pretty well I think, as my objective was speed and it was fun to do. Except the waves hitting the boat suck, but I threw those in quickly to try and help establish the size of the demon moving around in the water and causing a ruckus.

Inspired by another sketchbook thread (forget who right now), where they were posting images of fashion models on the catwalk they had sketched. I saw that and thought ā€œGee, I should do that too since I always feel like I need practice with clothingā€.

So hereā€™s some of that. Just quick sketches to get some clothing practice.
